Final Vientte illustrations with alterations

Below shows my two final vignette illustrations which i created as part of one of my final pieces. The idea of the vignette illustrations is to create illustrations that can be added amongst text and other parts of the narrative without looking out  of place.
The first illustration i created had a blended bleed, I wanted to experiment with this traditional blended bleed and how i could use different textures and brushes to create the blended edges that could sit on the white page. To do this i used a watercolour style brush in a darker tone blue that would show the universe that Valentina is floating in. I chose this brush as i felt it added texture and depth to the overall illustration. As well as the darker blue, i chose to use brighter colours to contrast against it and make Valentina stand out against the background. These colours were also chosen to help attract the viewer and draw them further into the narrative.

Also after receiving feedback from my lecturer there were a few elements that needed editing, for example the wire on this vignette illustration needed lengthening as well as some constellations needed moving. It was import to think about the placement of these elements as it may make Valentina look like she is tied or holding on to other elements.

Overall I was happy with this illustration and felt it communicated the ideas and situation that i was aiming to show to my targeted audience.

For the second vignette illustration I decided to go for a different type and choose a traditional white background that  would allow the illustration to blend into the white page amongst the text. For this scene I wanted to show the launch of the rocket as it launches for Valentina’s space mission. In this piece i really wanted to show the impact in which the launch had on the surrounding area. Therefore, i included a smaller tree next to the launch pad, although this is something which was very unrealistic it was a scene element which showed the height of the rocket and also the impact of the winds as leaves blow off the tree. For this piece i also chose to go for a pastel toned look that appears bright yet still muted, i chose to go for this as i feel it appears soft and yet still would attract my targeted audience and draw them into the story.

I also received feed back on this piece and after taking on board some alterations for details inside the smoke i decided to create a dark red inside instead of the aloud marks and i feel the darker solid space draws the attention of the viewer and matches the surrounding colours.

Overall I am happy with this vignette illustration as i feel it shows the difference between two types of vignette illustration and shows how it could be used to blend in amongst text and the simple white page. I was particularly happy with the details and pattern design i used within these illustrations as i feel it really communicates my visual language and adds to the overall look of the illustration.
